Bike, Skate, Scoot, Run, Walk, and Roll Through Santa Monica

On Sunday, September 15, sections of Ocean Avenue, Colorado Esplanade, and Main Street (that’s two miles!) will be closed to cars and open to people of all ages and abilities to bike, skate, scoot, run, walk, and roll. All are invited to participate in this free city celebration of a more people-powered and sustainable Santa Monica.

Leading up to the big day, COAST invites everyone to create and decorate your favorite transportation mode of choice, including yourself! Then participate in this carnival of wheels, rigs, wings, and feet and enter the COAST Contest to win prizes for creativity and innovation!

From August 28 to September 14, free artist-led workshops provide inspiration and materials for you and your friends, family and neighbors to create and decorate costumes, conveyances, walking pieces, and devices.

COAST invites everyone to be part of a carnival of wheels, rigs, wings, and feet! Ride your bike, skate around, take a stroll, roll through, and check things out – COAST will have live music, performances, lots of food to eat, and artsy activities.

This year, COAST will be a pageant of creativity by participants who can win prizes in the COAST Contest, open accessible and free to all. The contest judges will be looking for creativity and innovation, as well as entrants who bring the COAST ethos of sustainability, people-powered mobility and the spirit of Santa Monica to their submission.

Categories include:

  • Most COAST – the single best representation of the COAST ethos
  • Boldest Mobility Solution
  • Most Creative or Innovative
  • Best Use of Recycle Materials
  • Best Youth Entry
  • Best Group Effort
